Ramadan Programme in Spaoh Strengthens Community Bonds

SPAOH – The Ramadan spirit in Spaoh came alive over the weekend during the Lambuk and Sungkey Distribution Programme at the Darul Syifa’ Mosque. The Bukit Saban State Legislative Assembly Service Centre organised the event with SABERKAS Bukit Saban Branch.

Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Bukit Saban State Assemblyman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas attended the programme together with Betong Member of Parliament Dato Dr Richard Rapu. Their presence highlighted the role of community programmes in building closer ties between leaders and residents.

The programme involved more than food sharing. Financial support reached several local institutions and community groups. Ten suraus in Spaoh each received RM5,000, bringing the total contribution to RM50,000. Darul Syifa’ Mosque received RM10,000.

Village Development and Security Committees from four villages also received assistance. Kampung Hulu Spaoh, Kampung Tengah Spaoh, Kampung Hilir Spaoh, and Kampung Lot Penggan each received RM5,000, with total support reaching RM20,000.

Aidilfitri baskets were handed to vulnerable residents, including 10 single mothers, 10 converts, and one orphan. Ten senior citizens also received financial assistance ahead of the festive season.

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said programmes like this add warmth to Ramadan while strengthening unity and compassion among residents. The gathering also allowed leaders and villagers to interact directly and share concerns.

The distribution of lambuk porridge and sungkey added a festive touch. Lambuk, prepared through communal cooking, and sungkey, a local delicacy, carried the message of sharing and community care.

The programme reflected Sarawak’s focus on community welfare. Cultural traditions, charity, and community participation blended throughout the event, reminding residents that Ramadan carries values of generosity, solidarity, and mutual respect.
