RECODA Empowers Lawas Fishermen with IPR-BMT Initiative

LAWAS: The Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA), through its Socio-Economic Development Unit, has taken a significant step in supporting local fishermen with the ‘Inisiatif Pendapatan Rakyat – Basmi Miskin Tegar’ (IPR-BMT) initiative.

A handover ceremony was held in Lawas today, marking the first phase of the programme under the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) of RECODA. The initiative provided essential fishing equipment, including boats and engines, to help local fishermen boost their income and improve their livelihoods.

Supporting Economic Growth in Lawas

The IPR-BMT initiative is part of RECODA’s continuous efforts to enhance economic opportunities, particularly for rural and coastal communities. By equipping fishermen with the necessary tools, the programme aims to foster self-reliance and strengthen the local economy.

Speaking at the event, RECODA officials emphasised the importance of such initiatives in driving economic sustainability and improving the quality of life for the people of Lawas. The provision of new fishing equipment ensures that fishermen can increase their productivity, ultimately contributing to the region’s economic development.

Commitment to Sustainable Livelihoods

The initiative does not only provide immediate relief but also paves the way for long-term growth. By empowering the fishing community, RECODA is playing a key role in ensuring a more resilient and self-sufficient economy for Lawas.

The ceremony was attended by key figures, including the Regional Director of NRDA, Datu Ubaidillah Abdul Latip, Deputy Limbang Division Resident, Marie Rozita Kulai, and Manager of PNK Lawas, Basran Sakmad. Their presence underscored the government’s commitment to supporting local communities through strategic economic initiatives.

With ongoing efforts like the IPR-BMT, RECODA continues to uplift underprivileged communities, helping them break free from poverty and achieve sustainable economic growth.
