BINTULU – The Integrated Integration of Students (RIMUP) programme, implemented in primary schools throughout Sarawak, has emerged as a crucial platform for fostering unity, cooperation, and community engagement among students from diverse backgrounds.
Speaking at the “Building Harmony with Leaders” ceremony at Batu Teringai National School in Suai on Tuesday, Sarawak Minister of Food Industries, Commodities and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr. Stephen Lundy, highlighted the programme’s role in shaping not only harmonious relationships between students, teachers, and the local community, but also a highly qualified generation ready to contribute to the state’s development.
“We must collaborate; we need strong unity. Parents also play a vital role in ensuring their children receive a good education, not only academically but also in terms of discipline and character development,” he said.
Reflecting on his five-term tenure representing Gemena, Dr. Lundy praised the partnership between parents, teachers, and students as the driving force behind the sustained success of SK Batu Teringai.
“Success may be easy to achieve, but sustaining it is not,” he added.
The minister also unveiled a new initiative by the Sarawak United People’s Party (GPS): from 2026, all tuition fees for government universities in Sarawak will be waived.
He emphasised that this initiative particularly benefits students pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, addressing workforce demands and enhancing the state’s competitiveness.
Dr. Lundy urged parents and the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) to actively monitor students’ school engagement and provide guidance, ensuring the next generation becomes a valuable asset to Sarawak.
The ceremony was attended by Bintulu Governor Datuk Nurulak Kedi, Sipaho District Officer Tads, Batu Teringai Primary School Principal Bakir Zadan, and PTA Chairman and Longhouse Head Bakong Ligong.
