MIRI – Student development at Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang College has received a significant boost with an allocation of RM30,000 to support academic preparation and motivational programmes. The funding was announced during the Outstanding Student Awards 2025 ceremony held at the college’s Main Hall.
The allocation was approved by Deputy Minister of Women, Child Development and Community Welfare, Datuk Rosey Yunus, who is also the Bekenu Assemblywoman. She explained that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring students have access to inclusive and holistic learning support.
“Students’ success not only depends on classroom learning, but also requires guidance, encouragement and mental preparation. From this allocation, I hope student development programmes can be organised more efficiently and effectively,” she said in her speech on Friday.
Datuk Rosey also praised the college for producing students who excel academically while demonstrating commendable discipline and behaviour. She attributed this success to the strong collaboration between the school management, teachers, the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG), alumni and parents.
The event also highlighted the Sarawak Government’s broader education agenda under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.
Among the key policies is the introduction of free education at local universities in Sarawak starting next year, alongside scholarships in emerging fields such as green energy, hydrogen and aerospace.
These initiatives are designed to equip Sarawak’s younger generation with the skills required for the state’s transition towards a sustainable and innovation-driven economy.
The Outstanding Student Awards 2025 not only celebrated academic excellence but also reinforced the role of schools as platforms for shaping character, resilience and leadership among youth.
The ceremony recognised students who had excelled in both academic and co-curricular activities, reflecting the college’s long-standing reputation as one of Sarawak’s leading educational institutions.
Established in 1957, Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang College is among the oldest schools in Sarawak and has produced many leaders who have gone on to serve in government and other sectors. The latest allocation is expected to further strengthen its role in nurturing future-ready students.
By combining financial support, policy reforms and community collaboration, the state government aims to create a more inclusive education system that not only rewards academic achievement but also prepares students for the challenges of a rapidly evolving global landscape.
