TATAU – The constituency of N60 Kakus has received a major boost in community development with the distribution of RM323,000 under the Minor Rural Project (MRP) Coastal Empowerment Grants.
The funds were channelled to 21 Village Security and Development Committees (JKKK) and local associations, aimed at strengthening socio-economic empowerment and supporting coastal communities.
The allocation was announced by Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Office, with the distribution overseen by Tatau Selection Officer Winnie Dian.
The grants are intended to support projects that directly benefit residents, particularly in improving facilities and enhancing community welfare.
Among the recipients, St. Maria Chapel in Rumah Balis received RM140,000, while St. Paul’s Church in Lubok Kubong was allocated RM250,000. These funds will be used to improve facilities for worshippers and strengthen community activities.
Dato Sri John emphasised that the government’s approach to distributing funds is inclusive, ensuring that all recipients manage the allocations with integrity and accountability.
He noted that the grants are designed to uplift communities by addressing immediate needs while also supporting long-term socio-economic growth.
He further highlighted that the state government has also approved an increase in allowances for Community Leaders and Village Heads (KMKK), effective January 2026.
This adjustment, announced earlier, reflects the administration’s commitment to recognising grassroots leadership and ensuring their welfare.
Winnie Dian added that the Tatau Selection Office and Service Centre will continue monitoring the progress of funded projects to ensure they are implemented effectively. She stressed that transparency and proper direction are essential in maximising the impact of the grants.
The initiative forms part of Sarawak’s broader rural development strategy, which prioritises infrastructure, social empowerment, and community resilience.
Leaders in Kakus are expected to play a key role in guiding residents, fostering unity, and ensuring that elderly members of the coastal community are well supported.
The distribution of MRP grants in Kakus underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen rural communities, improve living standards, and create opportunities for inclusive development across Sarawak.
