RM4.72 Million Aid Benefits 3,185 Recipients in Limbang and Lawas

LIMBANG – More than 3,000 residents in Limbang and Lawas have received welfare assistance worth RM4.72 million during the first quarter of the year, reflecting ongoing efforts to support vulnerable communities.

Deputy Transport Minister and Limbang Member of Parliament Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said the allocation includes RM4.32 million under the Federal Assistance Scheme and RM400,400 from the State Assistance Scheme. The funds will support 3,185 recipients across both districts until March 2026.

He shared the details during the launch of the Limbang 2026 Sejambak Kasih Raya Programme at Bunga Raya Village Hall on Thursday.

“The assistance reflects the government’s commitment to protect the welfare of the people, especially those who require financial and moral support to manage daily living,” he said.

The Sejambak Kasih initiative, organised by the Sarawak Community Welfare Office (JKMS), delivered aid to 1,218 recipients in the Limbang Division. During the event, 100 recipients received their assistance in person, while the remaining beneficiaries obtained support through direct bank transfers.

Through the Uplifting Lives Festive programme, monthly welfare recipients also received an additional RM100 together with a festive hamper worth RM80 to help them prepare for Hari Raya Aidilfitri. The support aims to ease financial pressure while allowing families to celebrate the festive season with greater comfort.

Datuk Hasbi encouraged organisations and agencies to work with the Sarawak Ministry of Women, Child Development and Community Welfare to widen the reach of welfare initiatives.

“I believe in the concept that the more you give, the more you receive in return. Even a small programme like this brings joy to the community as they prepare to celebrate Hari Raya,” he said.

Several local leaders attended the event, including Limbang Deputy Resident Marie Cotilla Louise, Limbang District Officer Sulaiman Engal, Limbang Community Welfare Officer Abg Ahmad Ibrahim Abg Abdul Rahman, and community leader Pemancha Sahat Bagol.

The RM4.72 million distribution highlights the government’s continued focus on community welfare, especially in rural areas such as Limbang and Lawas. Sustained support through welfare programmes helps strengthen social stability while easing the burden faced by families dealing with economic hardship.
