Roofed Court Project at Kai Nguong Methodist Church Begins Under RTP

MERADONG – The Sarawak Government has launched another community-focused initiative in the Meradong constituency with the construction of a roofed court at Kai Nguong Methodist Church, implemented under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).

The project, valued at RM300,000, was officially handed over to the contractor during a ceremony witnessed by Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing on Thursday.

The new facility is intended to provide a safer and more conducive space for religious, social, and community activities, benefiting both church members and residents in the surrounding area.

According to project details, construction is scheduled to begin two weeks after the site handover, with a six-month implementation period. The court is expected to be completed by 7 June 2026.

Datuk Ding emphasised that the project reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening public facilities and houses of worship, ensuring communities have access to inclusive and functional spaces that promote social wellbeing.

He expressed hope that the new roofed court would serve as a long-term asset for the local community, acting as a hub for activities that foster unity and closer ties among residents.

The assemblyman also reminded the contractor to adhere strictly to approved specifications and timelines, stressing the importance of quality and efficiency in delivering the project.

The site handover ceremony marked the official commencement of the development, highlighting collaboration between the government, implementing agencies, contractors, and the church in advancing community infrastructure in Meradong.

Also present at the event were Sarikei Public Works Department assistant engineer Siti Anastasya Saili, Pemanca Yii Hee Sieng, and Kapitan Ting Pang Keng, who joined in witnessing the milestone.

The roofed court project is part of wider RTP efforts to enhance facilities across Sarawak, ensuring rural and urban communities alike benefit from improved infrastructure that supports social, cultural, and religious activities.
