Sabah & Labuan Contingents Touch Down in Kuching for BGK 2025

KUCHING — The atmosphere at Kuching International Airport turned festive on Monday evening as the Sabah and Labuan contingents arrived for the Borneo Games Kuching (BGK) 2025.

The first group, comprising 74 athletes and officials from Sabah and 14 representatives from Labuan, landed around 5 p.m.

They were warmly greeted by the event’s organising committee alongside representatives from the Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development.

Arrivals continued over the following days, with 16 more from Sabah and 38 from Labuan reaching on 23 September, followed by an additional 12 Labuan delegates on 24 September.

This brought the Sabah team’s total strength to 90, including athletes, coaches and officials, while Labuan’s contingent totalled 67 participants.

Both teams will take part in a wide range of events, including athletics, swimming, football, badminton, and netball, as well as traditional Borneo sports.

Organisers emphasised that their participation is not only about medal success but also about fostering regional unity, brotherhood, and sportsmanship.

BGK 2025, running this week, features athletes from Sarawak, Sabah, Labuan, and Brunei Darussalam. The multi-sport event serves as a crucial platform to nurture young talent and enhance regional cooperation through sport.
