PM Anwar Ibrahim Urges Sabah Youth to Drive State Progress

SANDAKAN – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Sabah’s youth to play a central role in shaping the state’s future, stressing the importance of strong leadership and federal-state cooperation during his two-day programme in Sandakan.

Speaking at the Sim Sim Futsal Centre, the Prime Minister highlighted that young people are expected to excel in their fields and act as catalysts for progress in both Sabah and Malaysia.

He emphasised that this momentum must be reflected in the choice of leaders during the upcoming Sabah State Election (PRN) on 29 November.

“The youth of Sabah are expected to excel in their fields and become catalysts for the progress of the state and the country,” he said, underscoring the need for synergy between society and leadership.

The Prime Minister also addressed claims regarding Sabah’s revenue, clarifying that the Federal Government channels around RM17 billion annually to the state, compared to Sabah’s own collection of approximately RM10 billion.

He described this as clear evidence of the federal government’s commitment to ensuring comprehensive and continuous development.

“This is clear evidence of the federal government’s efforts to ensure that this state continues to be driven comprehensively and continuously, as well as ensuring that the youth and people of Sabah are not left behind in the national development trend,” he added.

The visit formed part of the Prime Minister’s broader engagement with communities across Sabah, aimed at understanding the needs of different layers of society.

His remarks reinforced the federal government’s pledge to support Sabah’s growth while empowering its youth to take on leadership roles in driving progress.

Observers note that the Prime Minister’s focus on youth empowerment and federal allocations reflects a wider strategy to align Sabah’s development with national priorities, while ensuring inclusivity and shared responsibility in shaping the state’s future.
