SIBU: The search and rescue (SAR) team continues its efforts to locate Awang Indera Awang Mahmud, 45, who is feared to have fallen into the Paloh River, Tanjung Manis. The operation has now entered its fourth day with no significant breakthroughs.
Awang Indera was reported missing at around 1.20 pm last Saturday after he allegedly fell from an express boat. Since then, a multi-agency SAR team has been conducting an intensive search, but the victim has yet to be found.

Search Expands Across Paloh River
A spokesperson from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre stated that today’s search commenced at 11.25 am, led by the Tanjung Manis Fire and Rescue Station (BBP). Several agencies are assisting in the mission.

“The team is using water surface searching techniques, covering downstream and upstream areas within an eight-kilometre radius from where the victim was last seen,” the spokesperson explained.
The search has been divided into five key sectors, focusing on the suspected fall location. However, despite the expanded operation, no new clues have been uncovered.
Challenges Due to Weather Conditions
As the day progressed, worsening weather conditions forced rescuers to temporarily halt their efforts. Strong currents and low visibility made it too risky to continue, leading the SAR team to reschedule their search for 9.00 am the following morning.
Family members of the missing man are anxiously awaiting updates, while authorities urge river users to exercise caution to prevent similar incidents. The SAR team remains hopeful that they will find Awang Indera soon.
