SARATOK – The Saratok District Office hosted a committee meeting on 8 June 2026 to coordinate preparations for the S.T.A.R. (Say No, Take Action, Rise) Self-Potential Without Drugs programme.
The session brought together organisers and stakeholders to outline responsibilities, plan activities, and address logistical needs ahead of the programme’s implementation.
The initiative is designed to raise awareness of the dangers of drug abuse while encouraging participants to build self-potential through education, discipline, and constructive activities.
Committee members emphasised the importance of collaboration between agencies to ensure the programme runs smoothly and achieves its objectives.
The S.T.A.R. programme is part of a broader effort across Sarawak to intensify anti-drug campaigns. The Malaysian Drug Prevention Association (Pemadam) Sarawak recently announced plans to seek an increased allocation of RM1 million to support more than 90 prevention programmes annually, citing rising operational demands and the need for stronger outreach in schools and communities.
Officials highlighted that such programmes have already shown positive results, with school urine screenings recording a decline in drug-related cases over the past three years.
Similarly, the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Sarawak has been rolling out initiatives such as the Drug-Free Aspiration Tour and workplace prevention programmes, targeting different segments of society.
These campaigns combine education, community engagement, and enforcement to reinforce the vision of a drug-free Malaysia.
In Saratok, the S.T.A.R. programme will focus on equipping participants with knowledge and resilience to resist drug abuse.
Activities are expected to include workshops, motivational sessions, and recreational events that promote discipline and healthy lifestyles.
Organisers believe that by fostering self-confidence and positive values, the programme can help reduce vulnerability to narcotics. The committee meeting underscored the need for strong cooperation among all parties involved.
Members agreed that effective coordination is essential to ensure resources are used efficiently and that the programme delivers meaningful outcomes for the community.
The initiative also reflects Sarawak’s commitment to safeguarding youth and strengthening community resilience against drug-related challenges.
With preparations now underway, the S.T.A.R. programme is set to become a key platform in Saratok’s ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse.
Authorities hope that by combining awareness campaigns with personal development strategies, the programme will inspire participants to take proactive steps towards a healthier, drug-free future.
