Sarawak to Establish Administrative History Museum Highlighting Nation’s Past

Sarawak to Establish Administrative History Museum Highlighting Nation’s Past

KUCHING – Sarawak will soon have its own administrative history museum, dedicated to showcasing the journey of governance from the era of the Brunei Sultanate to the formation of Malaysia.

The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, announced the plan during the Closing Ceremony of the “Overnight Stay at the Museum 2025” program held at the Borneo Cultures Museum, Kuching, on Sunday.

He explained that the museum would serve as a valuable educational platform for future generations, allowing them to understand the challenges and historical progress that shaped the state and nation.

“God willing, we will establish another museum specifically to showcase the history of administration. This museum will highlight the administration from the Sultan of Brunei, the Brooke rule, the colonial era, and finally Malaysia,” he said.

The Premier added that with Malaysia Day approaching on September 16, it is crucial to reflect on how the nation was formed and the struggles faced by leaders in shaping a stable country during turbulent times.

“This history is something we must all know. At the same time, we must also look towards the future. If we want to understand the country’s future, we must look at the youth of today,” he added.

The event was also attended by several prominent figures, including Minister of National Unity Dato’ Sri Aaron Ago Dagang, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Sarawak Dato’ Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and Consul General of Brunei Darussalam to Sarawak Sheikh Abdul Mahdani Sheikh Abdul Gani.

Other attendees included Director-General of the Malaysian Museum Department Datuk Kamarul Baharin A. Kasim, Secretary-General of the Ministry of National Unity Dato’ Haslina Abdul Hamid, and Director of the Sarawak Museum Department Nancy Jolhi.

The Premier emphasized that the museum would not only display artifacts and documents but also encourage visitors to connect historical lessons with present realities, while inspiring young people to imagine the future of the nation. – Sarawakku
