KUCHING – More than 150 young gymnasts from Sarawak and Sabah gathered at Dewan Sa’ati, SUPP Headquarters, for the Sarawak Inter-School Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (AGG) Competition 2025, highlighting the sport’s growing presence in East Malaysia.
The championship was jointly organised by the Sarawak Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (SAGGA) and the Malaysian Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (MAGGA) as part of an ongoing effort to strengthen grassroots participation.
Students between the ages of seven and 18 represented schools, studios, and clubs across both states, performing compulsory routines under the Under-10, Under-12, and Under-18 categories.
The competition is part of a wider MAGGA-endorsed programme that provides athletes with a clear progression path from school-level competitions to national assessments and, eventually, International Federation of Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (IFAGG)-sanctioned events.
Batu Kitang Assemblyman Dato Lo Khere Chiang, who officiated at the event, praised the young athletes for their dedication and highlighted AGG’s value in building character, unity, and discipline. He contributed RM3,000 to SAGGA to further support its programmes.
“Sabah and Sarawak are more than neighbours; we are family, woven together by shared histories, cultures, and hopes for our children’s futures,” he said.
Representing MAGGA was Secretary General Sarah Sarraj, who delivered greetings on behalf of MAGGA President Dato’ Abdul Malek Noor and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to school-based AGG initiatives.
Sarawak was represented by SJKC Sungai Apong, SJKC Sungai Lubak, SJKC Batu 4½, SJKC Chung Hua No. 6, Mine Studio, Track & Dance Studio, and Rainbow RG Club from Sibu. From Sabah, gymnasts came from SJK (C) St. James Kota Kinabalu and LK Dream House under the Invitational Category.
SAGGA also honoured its committee members who served between 2019 and 2025 with Special Awards in recognition of their contributions to laying the groundwork for the sport’s development in the state.
The event received support from sponsors including MILO and Jerald’s Cookies & Desserts, alongside the efforts of teachers, coaches, parents, and volunteers. Organisers described the turnout as a strong sign of AGG’s future potential in the region.
