Sarawak Expands Back To School Aid in Kuala Rajang

KUALA RAJANG – The Sarawak Government has continued its commitment to community welfare by extending the Back To School Program in the Kuala Rajang State Assembly (DUN), aimed at easing the financial burden of low-income families as the 2026 school session approaches.

The initiative, organised by the Kuala Rajang State Assembly Service Centre in collaboration with Saberkas Kuala Rajang, was carried out across several schools in the Tanjung Manis Zone, covering Belawai and Rajang.

Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, and Kuala Rajang Assemblyman Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the programme reflects the government’s ongoing dedication to ensuring that education remains accessible for underprivileged families.

“This initiative shows our continuous concern for the welfare of the people, especially in the aspect of education,” he noted.

The Back To School Program builds on earlier welfare efforts in the constituency, including the Khatan Perdana Program in December 2025 and the Gunting Rambut Freka Program in January 2026. These initiatives collectively highlight the government’s focus on supporting families and children in practical ways.

In the Tanjung Manis Zone, aid distribution covered six primary schools and one secondary school: SMK Belawai, SK Abang Gesa Belawai, SK Abang Buyuk Jerijih, SK Abang Galau Rajang, SK Batang Sebayang, and SK Stalun.

A total of 389 students received school bags, shoes, water bottles, and stationery, ensuring they are better prepared for the new academic year.

Attention will now turn to the Sarikei Zone, where assistance is scheduled for 11 schools, benefiting 822 students. This next phase will follow the completion of the Tanjung Manis distribution.

The programme’s implementation was managed by Saberkas members in partnership with the Kuala Rajang DUN Service Centre, reflecting strong cooperation between local leadership and youth organisations.

This collaboration underscores the importance of community-driven initiatives in addressing the needs of families.

Datuk Len Talif emphasised that such programmes are part of Sarawak’s broader welfare agenda, ensuring that no child is left behind due to financial hardship. He added that education support remains a priority for the state, as it directly contributes to long-term social and economic development.

The Back To School Program demonstrates Sarawak’s consistent efforts to safeguard the well-being of its people, reinforcing the state’s role in promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities for students across rural and urban areas.
