SEMATAN: The Sarawak Government remains committed to supporting communities affected by sand mining and quarry activities through the LANDAS Gives Back CSR initiative. This program, spearheaded by the Sarawak Land and Survey Department (JTS) since 2022, mandates companies involved in rock extraction to contribute to local communities.
For 2025, the Sarawak government has allocated RM127,600 to support affected groups, ensuring that development projects also benefit local residents.
Several organizations and institutions have been selected to receive financial assistance, including:
✅ Area Fishermen’s Association (PNK) Sematan
✅ Surau Nurul Islam Kampung Tanah Hitam
✅ Surau An Nur Kampung Trusan Jaya
✅ Darul Iman Mosque Kampung Tembaga Melayu
✅ SMK Paku Bau
✅ SJKC Chung Hua Paku Bau
A cheque presentation ceremony was held at Roxy Beach Resort, Sematan, attended by the Director of Land and Survey Sarawak, Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood. The event highlighted the importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in fostering stronger ties between the government, private sector, and local communities.
According to a JTS media statement, the LANDAS CSR program aims not only to assist affected communities but also to encourage private companies to play a more active role in social welfare initiatives.
The CSR funds are sourced from license holders operating sand and quarry activities in the Lundu and Sematan areas. The government hopes this initiative will serve as a model for future welfare programs that positively impact the people of Sarawak.
