KUCHING – The Sarawak Budget 2026 Conference has positioned itself as a strategic platform for shaping the state’s long-term prosperity, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, academics, and media representatives to coordinate the Malaysian Civil Budget 2026 with Sarawak’s own fiscal agenda.
Founder and Managing Partner of Salihin Group, Dato’ (Dr.) Salihin Abang, stressed that successful budget implementation requires collective commitment from all sectors of society.
“From Kuching to Lawas, no budget can build prosperity alone, it requires the involvement of all parties,” he said during the forum session held on Tuesday.
He noted that the Malaysian Civil Budget 2026 reflects the Federal Government’s inclusive approach, focusing on cost of living, healthcare, education, and digital transformation.
The introduction of a carbon tax, he added, demonstrates Malaysia’s commitment to the net zero agenda, aligning with Sarawak’s green development aspirations.
At the state level, the Sarawak Budget 2026 is described as bold and people-centred. Among its highlights is a RM250 million allocation for free higher education, expected to expand access to thousands of families across Sarawak.
The state government is also pursuing strategic investments in the hydrogen sector, digital infrastructure, and rural connectivity to drive balanced and inclusive growth.
Dato’ Dr. Salihin emphasised Sarawak’s strong economic performance, noting that the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached RM148 billion in 2024, contributing about nine percent to Malaysia’s overall GDP.
This achievement, he said, reflects the consistent implementation of the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which continues to guide Sarawak’s development priorities.
The conference underscored the importance of collaboration between federal and state governments, private enterprises, and communities in ensuring that fiscal policies translate into tangible benefits.
With its focus on sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation, the Sarawak Budget 2026 is seen as a cornerstone for future prosperity.
