Sarawak Cabinet Reshuffle Strengthening Energy and Development

Sarawak Cabinet Reshuffle: Strengthening Energy and Development

KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Government has announced a minor cabinet reshuffle, with Satok Assemblyman Dato Ibrahim Baki appointed as the Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak (Utility), effective today. His new role will see him overseeing Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS), key agencies in Sarawak’s energy sector.

The announcement was made by Sarawak Premier and GPS President, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, who stated that the reshuffle aims to enhance government service delivery and boost investment in the oil and gas industry.

New Appointments to Strengthen Sarawak’s Development

As part of the reshuffle, Pantai Damai Assemblyman, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, has been assigned as the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department. His responsibilities include coordinating Regional Development Agencies, Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara (DBKU), and Islamic Affairs.

“The new appointments will allow the Sarawak Government to strategically plan for economic growth, particularly in the energy sector, in line with the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030),” said the Sarawak Premier.

Dato Ibrahim Baki to Lead Gas Industry Roadmap

Dato Ibrahim Baki’s expertise in law, corporate governance, and energy concessions makes him a strong candidate to lead Sarawak’s gas development efforts. With his experience as a former Petronas legal officer and board member, he will play a crucial role in coordinating gas projects and managing the commercial agreement between Petronas and PETROS.

“We need individuals with the right expertise to execute the gas industry roadmap, and Dato Ibrahim is the right person for the job,” the Premier stressed.

Sarawak’s Green Energy Ambition

Beyond oil and gas, Sarawak is positioning itself as a green energy hub in ASEAN. The state government, through SEB, is expanding renewable energy initiatives and enhancing electricity supply to support its vision of becoming a high-income economy by 2030.

The minor reshuffle reflects Sarawak’s commitment to development, investment, and energy sustainability, ensuring that the state remains at the forefront of Malaysia’s economic transformation. – UKAS
