KUCHING – The construction of the Sarawak Cancer Centre (PKS) took a significant step forward with the Medical Asset Procurement Management Meeting held at Wisma Bapa, Sarawak.
The session was attended by YBhg. Datuk Seri Hj. Hasnol Zam Zam bin Hj. Ahmad and chaired by YAB Datuk Amar Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Health, Housing & Local Government of Sarawak.
The meeting brought together representatives from the Federal Government and Sarawak State Government to discuss strategic decisions on medical equipment procurement for the high-impact PKS project.
Officials emphasised that the initiative is crucial in strengthening Malaysia’s healthcare system, particularly in Sarawak, where access to comprehensive cancer treatment facilities is a growing need.
Approved by the Cabinet in 2024, the PKS project symbolises close cooperation between federal and state authorities.
Its implementation timeline spans several phases: pre-implementation (2025–2026), implementation (2027–2032), and post-implementation (2032–2034).
The centre is expected to be fully completed by 2032, providing modern, competitive cancer treatment services.
Discussions focused on coordinating the scope of work, identifying equipment requirements, and outlining follow-up steps to ensure smooth execution.
The Ministry of Health reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the healthcare system through the development of high-tech facilities, aligning with the aspirations of MADANI Malaysia.
The Sarawak Cancer Centre is anticipated to become a landmark facility, offering advanced oncology services and reducing the need for patients to travel outside the state for treatment.
By integrating modern medical assets and strategic planning, the project aims to deliver long-term benefits to the people of Sarawak and contribute to national healthcare excellence.
