KUCHING – The upcoming Sarawak Day 2025 celebration in Bintulu is set to showcase the state’s journey of progress since the formation of Malaysia, while highlighting the town’s transformation into a fast-emerging industrial hub.
Minister of Consumer Industry, Commodities and Rural Development and Organising Minister for Malaysia Day 2025, Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, said the three-day celebration will carry the slogan “MakSamur Maju Malaysia” and aims to reflect Sarawak’s achievements in the past, present, and future.
The programme begins on September 14 with the Other Religions Programme organised by the Unit for Other Religious Affairs (UNIFOR), followed by the Assya Mosque Selamat Programme on September 15.
On September 16, a Malaysia Day Marathon will be held in the morning before the main event at the Old Bintulu Airport, which is expected to attract around 10,000 participants.
“The festival will be a platform to display Sarawak’s development in all aspects, while showcasing Bintulu as a new industrial cluster recognised at the World Economic Forum.”
Dr Rundi said at a press conference after a courtesy call on Premier of Sarawak, Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, at the Satria Pertiwi Complex, Petra Jaya.
He added that the celebration will also spotlight major development projects, including new housing and industrial areas such as Samalaju and Jepak Jaya, which are planned to ease congestion and drive future growth in Bintulu.
The Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, will grace the occasion as the guest of honour, alongside the Sarawak Premier and other state leaders.
Dr Rundi noted that preparations are in their final stages, with exhibitions and a special video presentation being prepared to illustrate Sarawak’s progress.
“Through the exhibition, we will show how Sarawak has benefited since joining Malaysia. The theme of the celebration is ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur Dalam Malaysia’,” he said.
Also present at the media briefing were Bintulu Resident Datu Nyurak Keti and Director of the Sarawak Protocol, Customs and Programme Management Unit, Datu Hamdan Sharbini.
