Sarawak Celebrates World Girl Guides Memorial Day

KUCHING – The Sarawak Branch of the Malaysian Girl Guides Association marked World Girl Guides Day 2026 with a state-level celebration at the Sheraton Kuching Hotel on 18 April.

The event carried the theme “Our Friendship”, reflecting the global focus of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and commemorating the centenary of the international celebration.

The ceremony was officiated by YABhg. Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, patron of the Sarawak Branch of the Malaysian Girl Guides Association.

Her arrival was warmly received by YBhg. Dato Hajah Dayang Morliah binti Datuk Haji Awang Daud, President of the Sarawak Branch, alongside Deputy President Annie Sim, Chief Commissioner Ruth Sibat, and other executive board members, district commissioners, and invited guests.

As part of the symbolic opening, Toh Puan lit a candle together with members of the association. The gesture represented unity, solidarity, and the enduring spirit of friendship among Girl Guides.

The programme also featured cultural and creative performances by members from schools across Sarawak, showcasing the diversity and enthusiasm of the younger generation.

In her address, Toh Puan expressed appreciation for the association’s consistent efforts in nurturing young women through leadership training, character development, and volunteerism.

She highlighted the importance of empowering girls to become confident and capable leaders, noting that such initiatives contribute to building a stronger society.

During the event, she also distributed Bag Jalinan Kasih packages containing school supplies to students. The gesture symbolised encouragement and support for educational achievement, reinforcing the association’s commitment to holistic development.
