Sarawak Governor and Wife Engage with Traders at Bintulu Guest Market

BINTULU – Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, conducted a walkabout at the Bintulu Guest Market on Thursday, shortly after arriving in Bintulu. The visit provided an opportunity for the couple to connect with local traders and explore the vibrant market scene.

Accompanied by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU, and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, and his wife, Datin Shorgayah Ahmad Zaidin, the Governor and his wife arrived at the market at 11:30 AM.

They were warmly welcomed by Tanjung Batu State Assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming, Bintulu Division Resident Datu Nyurak Keti, Bintulu District Police Chief Superintendent Nixon Joshua Ali, and other senior government officials.

The Bintulu Guest Market, a hub for local produce, offers a diverse range of fresh fruits, vegetables, and traditional goods, including salted fish, yeast, nipah leaf cigarettes, lime, cincaluk, dried shrimp, crackers, and cookies.

The walkabout allowed Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi and Toh Puan Fauziah to engage directly with traders, inquire about their products, and capture memorable photos, fostering a sense of community and connection.

The visit underscores the Governor’s commitment to engaging with Sarawak’s diverse communities while exploring key regional hubs like Bintulu. On Friday, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi and his wife will attend the state-level Maal Hijrah 1447H/2025 Assembly at Dewan Suarah Bintulu, further highlighting their active role in Sarawak’s cultural and civic events.
