KUCHING – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, hosted a family dinner at Kasuma Resort, Petra Jaya, last Sunday evening.
It was a lovely and chilled out gathering of immediate family and friends. Present were the Governor’s daughters, Sharifah Fariah and Sharifah Nong-Jasima, and her husband, Encik Muhammad Nur Hakeem Yusop.
Among those who graced the event were Dato’ Sheila Eleanor De Costa, Puan Shirley Mowe, Ah Huang, Encik Kevin & his wife Stephene Encik Wan Alwi Al-Barakbah, Ms Debra and Gina Gray.
It was a time for family and friends to reunite, catch up on news, and discuss a variety of topics dealing with the state.
And one of the issues discussed during the event was the escalating problem with crocodiles in Sarawak that has captured headlines in recent months.
The discussion was knit around the group’s passion points: community and conservation, and family concerns.
The dinner was made even more memorable through the governor’s signing copies of his own poetry book, Silence, in a special session.
Having signed copies from Encik Mustanir Yusuf and Puan Diana Ningkan, guests will not forget that even an evening of their lives was personally autographed.
I hope, at the conclusion of this state of alert, that the spirit of brotherhood and unity will remain among family and friends,” concluded the governor.
Joined by the Toh Puan, they prayed for the good health and success of everyone there and expressed their hope that each may be successful in his or her undertakings.
It became a celebration of the bonds of family and cultural heritage, as well as an opportunity to have informal discussions on topics of public importance.
It was a refreshingly personal example that coming together can be relationship-building and provide opportunities for conversation within the community.
