KUCHING – The Sarawak Governor participated in weekly congregational prayers at a local mosque shortly after fulfilling official duties at the airport. Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar attended the Friday Fard Prayer at the Darul Barakah Mosque in Taman Satria Jaya, BDC.
This religious engagement followed his reception of Their Majesties the Sultan of Pahang and Tengku Ampuan Pahang at Kuching International Airport earlier the same day. The Governor’s arrival at the place of worship was facilitated by YBhg Dato Sri Syed Hamzah bin Syed Paie, his Senior Private Secretary.
Upon reaching the mosque, Tun Pehin Sri was greeted by the institution’s leadership and community members. The welcoming party included YBhg. Dr Humrawali bin Hazid Ahmad Khan, Chairman of the Darul Barakah Mosque, alongside committee members and local congregants.
The religious service was led by a prominent Islamic figure in the state. YBhg. Dato Haji Mustapha Kamal bin Ahmad Fauzi, who holds the position of Grand Imam of Sarawak, officiated the prayers and delivered the weekly sermon.
His address to the congregation carried an environmental theme, titled “Preserving the Earth, the Gift of Allah SWT”. The discourse emphasised spiritual responsibilities toward environmental conservation and sustainable living principles.
Following the completion of prayers, the Governor undertook customary formalities by signing the mosque’s official visitor record. This ceremonial act was followed by a commemorative photography session with the mosque’s management committee.
The engagement extended beyond formal protocols as Tun Pehin Sri interacted directly with community members. He allocated time for informal conversations with worshippers, strengthening connections with the local Muslim population.
In a gesture of community support, the Governor presented donation envelopes to children among the congregation. This act of philanthropy formed part of the broader engagement with mosque attendees.
The visit concluded with the traditional shaking of hands, reinforcing bonds of friendship and solidarity with those present. Such personal interactions are characteristic of the Governor’s approach to community relations.
This appearance at a neighbourhood mosque demonstrates the continued tradition of state leaders maintaining visible connections with religious institutions. It highlights the importance placed on both spiritual observance and community integration within Sarawak’s governance approach.
