KUCHING – Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar attended Friday prayers at Darul Hana Mosque along Jalan Tun Salahuddin on 21 August, joining members of the Muslim community for the weekly congregational prayer.
The Governor was received at the mosque by Land Development and Conservation Authority chief executive officer YBrs Sr Hardi Fadillah Hamzah, Darul Hana Mosque chairman Tuan Haji Khairul Anwar Haji Sazali and officers from Sarawak Astana.
The Friday prayer was led by Ustaz Mohammad Muiz Zakaria Haji Julaihi, who also delivered the sermon titled “Imitating the Sirah, Empowering the Ummah”.
The sermon focused on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad and encouraged Muslims to regard him as Uswatun Hasanah, or the best example, in their conduct and daily lives.
It highlighted the importance of drawing guidance from the Prophet’s sirah, particularly in developing personal character and strengthening values within the Muslim community.
The Governor also called for continued appreciation of the Prophet’s teachings and sirah, saying these principles could serve as guidance in everyday life.
The emphasis was placed on values including faith, good character and compassion, with the aim of contributing to a Muslim community in Sarawak that remains grounded in its religious principles.
The occasion also underscored the role of religious values in community life, particularly in encouraging individuals to translate moral and spiritual teachings into their everyday interactions.
The Governor said such values should be practised within the wider community and used as a foundation for collective efforts to maintain harmony and promote the wellbeing of Sarawak.
Friday prayers provide a regular opportunity for Muslims to gather for worship and reflection, while the accompanying sermon addresses religious and social themes relevant to the congregation.
At Darul Hana Mosque, the sermon placed particular attention on the example set by Prophet Muhammad and the relevance of his teachings to contemporary community life.
The visit also brought the Sarawak Governor together with mosque representatives and officials in a community setting. His presence at the mosque formed part of his engagement with local religious institutions and the Muslim community in Kuching.
The message delivered during the occasion centred on strengthening personal values as well as encouraging a sense of responsibility towards the wider community.
By highlighting faith, morality and compassion, the occasion emphasised the connection between individual conduct and broader efforts to sustain social harmony.
The Governor’s call for these principles to be maintained in community life was also linked to the wider objective of supporting peace, understanding and wellbeing across Sarawak.
The Friday prayer gathering concluded with an emphasis on applying religious teachings beyond the mosque and incorporating them into everyday conduct and community relations.
