JEDDAH – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, has safely arrived in Saudi Arabia to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage.
He was accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, and their official entourage.
The group landed at King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah at 5.55 am local time on Saturday, marking the beginning of their spiritual journey in the Holy Land. Their arrival was part of the wider preparations for Malaysian pilgrims travelling to perform Hajj this year.
Joining the Governor was Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, YB Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who travelled with his wife, Datin Sri Hajah Zuraini binti Abdul Jabbar. The presence of senior state leaders highlights Sarawak’s representation in this year’s pilgrimage.
Upon arrival, the delegation was received by officials from the Hajj management team and airport authorities.
Formalities, including immigration checks and travel arrangements, were swiftly completed before the group proceeded to their accommodation.
The entourage is expected to rest and prepare for the upcoming rituals, which form part of the annual pilgrimage undertaken by millions of Muslims worldwide.
The Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, is a sacred duty for Muslims who are physically and financially able to perform it at least once in their lifetime.
Each year, pilgrims from across the globe gather in Makkah and surrounding holy sites to fulfil the rites, which include Tawaf around the Kaaba, Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, and standing at Arafat.
For Sarawak, the governor’s participation underscores the state’s connection to the global Muslim community and reflects the importance of faith in public life.
The journey also carries symbolic significance, as leaders and citizens alike share in the spiritual experience of the pilgrimage.
The arrival of Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi and his entourage in Jeddah marks the start of a period of devotion and reflection.
Their presence in Saudi Arabia is expected to continue with scheduled rituals and prayers, alongside thousands of Malaysian pilgrims who have travelled for the same purpose.
