Sarawak Governor Joins Shooting Training at PULAPOL

Sarawak Governor Joins Shooting Training at PULAPOL

KUCHING: In a first-of-its-kind event, Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, actively participated in a shooting training session organised by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) at the Police Training Centre (PULAPOL) in Kuching on Monday.

The distinguished couple arrived at 10am and were warmly welcomed by Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah, Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, and other senior PDRM officers. The visit marked a historic moment as the Yang di-Pertua Negeri engaged directly in police firearms training, highlighting the importance of safety, discipline, and professional skill in law enforcement.

The programme commenced with a briefing on firearm safety and handling, delivered by DSP Zaidi Said, the Armaments Staff Officer from the Logistics and Technology Department of the Sarawak Police Contingent (IPK) Headquarters, who also oversaw the training operations. Following the briefing, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah participated in centre-fire and falling plate shooting exercises alongside the Sarawak Police Commissioner and other senior officers.

ACP Alexson Naga explained that the inaugural training involved a total of 20 senior officers, both male and female, to ensure that their skills and competence with firearms remain at the highest level. He emphasised that continuous training is crucial to maintain operational readiness and safety standards among police personnel.

After the shooting exercises, the Governor and his wife attended a luncheon and later signed the target paper used during the session, marking a personal memento of the day. The historic programme concluded with a group photography session, celebrating the collaboration between the state’s highest office and the police force. The dignitaries departed shortly afterwards, leaving behind a memorable milestone in Sarawak’s law enforcement history.

This event underscores Sarawak’s ongoing commitment to professional excellence within its police force and the active engagement of its state leaders in supporting public safety initiatives. – UKAS
