SEBUYAU – His Excellency the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, arrived safely at the Sebuyau Fishing Jetty on 2 May 2026.
The visit marked the second checkpoint of the D’Astana to Lingga Adventure Programme, with the delegation travelling aboard the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS) Interceptor boat.
The Governor’s arrival was warmly received by YB Dato Sri Haji Julaihi bin Haji Narawi, Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Sarawak, alongside Mr Mohamad Irwan bin Bahari Bujang, Resident of Samarahan Division; Sebuyau District Officer Mr Ayuradiman bin Bujang; and Village Chief Abang Spawi bin Abang Junaidi.
Community leaders, including Pemanka Merum, son of Babu, as well as representatives from government agencies and local residents, joined in the welcoming ceremony.
The delegation was greeted with a vibrant hadrah performance by Kumpulan Hadrah Nurul Hikmah 2 from Kampung Jalan Sawmil, Sebuyau.
The celebration continued with a prayer recitation led by Alfadhil Ustaz Bahrin bin Kawi, Islamic religious officer of Samarahan Division, followed by cultural showcases including the Ngajat dance from Kampung Bajong and a martial arts demonstration by the White Eagles Group from Kampung Masjid Sebuyau.
Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi and Toh Puan Fauziah expressed their gratitude for the lively reception, acknowledging the community’s efforts in making the event memorable.
The governor highlighted the importance of such gatherings in strengthening ties between leaders and the people, while also celebrating Sarawak’s cultural diversity.
Following the festivities, the governor and his wife paid a visit to the family of the late Wan Morsidi bin Tuanku Haji Sait, also known as Wan Dinel, a cousin of Tun Pehin Sri who passed away on 1 May 2026.
They were received by the late Wan Morsidi’s wife, Sharifah Hasiah binti Tuanku Mashor, and family members. A prayer for the departed was led by Alfadhil Ustaz Haji Syed Mohd Rusydi bin Haji Wan Yusop, Sarawak State Astana Religious and Research Officer.
The governor and Toh Puan conveyed their condolences, offering prayers for the late Wan Morsidi and words of comfort to his family.
Their presence underscored the values of compassion and solidarity, reflecting the governor’s commitment to both community engagement and family ties.
The Sebuyau stopover highlighted the blend of cultural celebration and personal reflection within the D’Astana Journey, reinforcing the programme’s role in fostering unity, respect, and shared heritage across Sarawak.
