MECCA – The Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with his consort, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, arrived safely in the Holy City of Mecca at 10.30 am local time on 23 May.
Their arrival marks the beginning of a significant spiritual journey as they prepare to perform the Umrah and other religious obligations during their stay.
The Governor and Toh Puan were accompanied by a delegation that included Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and his wife, Datin Sri Hajah Zuraini binti Abdul Jabbar.
The entourage travelled together to the Dar Al Tawhid Hotel, where they were warmly received by senior representatives of Malaysia’s pilgrimage institutions.
Among those welcoming the delegation were Tan Sri Rashid Hussain, Chairman of the Malaysian Haji Fund, and YM Tengku Dato’ Badlishah Shukri bin Tengku Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of TH Travel.
Officers from TH Travel and the hotel management were also present to extend hospitality to the distinguished guests.
As part of the traditional welcome, the delegation was served Arabic delicacies including dates, coffee and soft drinks.
This gesture reflected the cultural customs of the region and symbolised respect for visitors arriving to undertake religious duties in the Holy Land.
Following the reception, the Governor and Toh Puan took time to rest before beginning preparations for their pilgrimage.
Their participation in the Umrah underscores the importance of faith and devotion in leadership, while also highlighting the strong ties between Sarawak and the wider Muslim community.
The arrival of the Sarawak Governor in Mecca is part of a broader journey that reflects the spiritual commitment of Malaysian leaders to perform the Hajj and Umrah.
Such visits also strengthen international connections, as Malaysia continues to maintain close cooperation with Saudi Arabia in facilitating pilgrimages for its citizens.
The Governor’s presence in Mecca is expected to inspire many Sarawakians who are preparing for their own journeys of faith.
His safe arrival, alongside Toh Puan, has been received with joy by the Sarawak community, who view the pilgrimage as a moment of unity and spiritual renewal.
This visit also highlights the role of Sarawak’s leadership in upholding religious traditions while maintaining their responsibilities at home.
The Governor’s pilgrimage is a reminder of the balance between governance and spirituality, a value deeply rooted in Sarawak’s cultural and religious fabric.
