TRISO – His Excellency the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, inspected the heritage site of Kampung Triso today as part of the D’Astana to Lingga Travel Departure Programme.
The visit highlighted the importance of preserving cultural landmarks and strengthening ties with local communities.
The Governor, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, began the journey from the Sarawak Rivers Board Terminal at 6.26am.
The cruise concluded at Triso Fishing Jetty at 9.50am, where he was warmly received by Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (Youth Development and Sports) and Member of the State Legislative Assembly for Layar N.36.
Local residents welcomed the delegation with hadrah performances before the tour commenced. One of the key activities was a visit to the Kampung Triso Cemetery.
The Governor joined in a brief tahlil reading and prayer session, paying respects to past residents and acknowledging the village’s historical roots. This act of remembrance underscored the significance of heritage in shaping community identity.
The Governor also visited several historical landmarks within the village, including old houses and wells that serve as symbols of the area’s cultural legacy.
These sites reflect the daily lives of earlier generations and stand as reminders of the community’s resilience and traditions.
The programme concluded with congregational Zohor prayers at Al-Muhajirin Mosque. During the visit, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi presented a donation of RM20,000 to the mosque’s management, reinforcing his commitment to supporting local institutions.
The Governor and his wife then joined family members and villagers for lunch, further strengthening bonds with the community.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including State Assembly Member for N.29 Beting Maro, Dato Razaili Gapor, Resident of Betong Division Datu Richard Michael Abunawas, Pusa District Officer Hamdan Katang, Temenggong of Betong Division Ayahanda Piee Alwi, Pusa District Commissioner Rasli @ Rosli Uji, and Village Chief of Triso, Awang Mos Sulaiman. Their presence highlighted the collective effort to preserve heritage and foster unity.
Observers noted that the Governor’s visit not only honoured Kampung Triso’s historical significance but also reinforced the role of leadership in promoting cultural preservation.
By engaging directly with residents and supporting local initiatives, the Governor demonstrated how heritage conservation can strengthen community spirit and continuity.
