Sarawak Governor Attends UNIFOR-ACS Pre-Christmas Dinner in Kuching

KUCHING – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, attended the 2025 Pre-Christmas Dinner hosted by the Other Religions Unit (UNIFOR) of the Sarawak Premier’s Department in collaboration with the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS). The event was held at the Sheraton Hotel, Kuching, on Tuesday evening.

The Governor was accompanied by his daughters, Sharifah Fariah and Sharifah Nong-Jasima, together with her husband, Encik Muhammad Nur Hakeem. Their arrival at 8.00 pm was greeted by a distinguished line-up of guests, including Deputy Premier of Sarawak YB Datuk Amar Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian and his wife, Dato Enn Ong Siok Yen; UNIFOR Director Dato Georgina Apphia Ngau and her husband, Mr. Peter Bryan Morrison; and Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute, ACS Chairman, alongside his wife, Datin Julita Jack Sungul. Leaders of non-Muslim religious institutions and other dignitaries were also present.

The evening unfolded in a vibrant atmosphere, showcasing Sarawak’s multicultural harmony. Musical and singing performances by church institutions added to the festive spirit, reflecting the strong sense of unity among the state’s diverse communities.

In his remarks, Datuk Amar Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian highlighted that the Governor’s presence demonstrated his role as a leader for all races in Sarawak. Meanwhile, Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute expressed deep appreciation to the Governor for initiating the idea of the Pre-Christmas Dinner, which successfully brought together people of different faiths and backgrounds.

During the event, the Governor presented aid contributions to several charitable organisations, including The Salvation Army Kuching Children Care Centre, Home of Peace, and The Sarawak Cheshire Home. These contributions underscored the importance of supporting welfare institutions and strengthening community care.

The evening also featured a surprise celebration of the Governor and Toh Puan’s wedding anniversary, which coincided with the date of the dinner. Organisers presented a cake to mark the occasion, adding a personal touch to the formal gathering.

In his closing message, the Governor expressed gratitude to the organisers for their warm welcome and hospitality. He emphasised his hope that Sarawak’s people would continue to live in peace, harmony, and mutual respect, reinforcing the state’s reputation for unity across its multi-racial and multi-religious society.

The Pre-Christmas Dinner served not only as a festive occasion but also as a symbol of Sarawak’s commitment to inclusivity and interfaith cooperation, reflecting the values of solidarity and compassion that underpin the state’s social fabric.
