KUALA LUMPUR – His Excellency the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife Yang Amat Berbahagia Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, received a courtesy visit from the Tun Abdul Razak University (UNIRAZAK) delegation at their official residence in the capital this afternoon.

The meeting commenced at 4.00 pm and was led by UNIRAZAK Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dato’ Mohamed Nizam Abdul Razak.

The delegation included Vice Chancellor Prof. Datin Paduka Dr Samsinar Md Sidin, Chief Executive Officer Amil Izham Hamzah, Chief Operating Officer Mohamed Fairuz Mohamed Noor, Registrar Aini Juhaida Abu Samah, and Senior Public Relations & Branding Officer Nur Dini Mohd Nazri. Their visit was marked by a significant presentation to the governor and his consort.

The highlight of the occasion was the formal handover of the original registration certificate for the orchid “Phalaenopsis Empress Fauziah”, which has been officially recognised as a unique hybrid by the Royal Horticultural Society in the United Kingdom.

This orchid, distinguished by its wide, soft petals adorned with delicate magenta spots on a pure white background, was first introduced as a tribute to Toh Puan during UNIRAZAK’s 24th Convocation Ceremony in December last year.

The governor and Toh Puan expressed their heartfelt appreciation to UNIRAZAK for the honour and recognition bestowed through the orchid’s registration.

They noted that the gesture symbolises not only beauty and elegance but also the enduring relationship between Sarawak and Malaysia’s higher education institutions.

Tun Pehin Sri further emphasised the importance of strengthening collaboration between universities and the State of Sarawak, particularly in advancing education and nurturing human capital.

He highlighted that such partnerships are essential for preparing future generations to meet the challenges of national development.

The meeting unfolded in a cordial and harmonious atmosphere, reflecting the shared commitment to fostering educational excellence and cultural appreciation.

The orchid, now officially registered, stands as a lasting symbol of respect and recognition for Toh Puan, while also underscoring the role of higher education institutions in promoting innovation and international recognition.

This visit adds to the governor’s series of engagements in Kuala Lumpur, reinforcing Sarawak’s active involvement in national and educational affairs.

It also demonstrates how symbolic gestures, such as the registration of a hybrid orchid, can strengthen ties between academia and state leadership while celebrating Malaysia’s rich botanical heritage.
