Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said the initiative places the state on track to become a high-income economy by 2030 while positioning Sarawak as a leader in green development across the region.

“Across the globe, countries are seeking ways to decarbonise their economies. Transport, as one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, is at the forefront of this transformation,” he said in a message delivered by Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, during the Green Mobility Innovation Summit on Monday.

The Premier explained that Sarawak’s green agenda is anchored on five central pillars: renewable energy, hydrogen economy, sustainable transport, circular economy, and green talent development.

Among flagship projects are Southeast Asia’s first integrated hydrogen production facility, the rollout of hydrogen refuelling stations, and the operation of hydrogen-powered and electric buses in Sarawak.

These initiatives, he said, highlight the state’s determination to embrace clean energy while fostering innovation.

The summit, which drew over 750 participants from Malaysia and abroad, brought together ministries, research institutions, and industry players.

He further emphasised that green mobility is not only about introducing eco-friendly vehicles but also about creating liveable cities, building inclusive communities, and safeguarding the environment for future generations.

Also present at the event was Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, who reiterated the government’s support for policies promoting clean energy and carbon reduction.
