The operation, which started at 10:30 AM, focused on five factories, following thorough intelligence gathered by the JIM Kuching Enforcement Division. A total of 157 individuals were inspected, including 13 Malaysian citizens. Out of those screened, 94 foreigners were arrested — 80 men and 11 women from Indonesia, and 3 men from Bangladesh.

Initial investigations revealed that the detainees either had no valid travel documents or had overstayed their work passes. In addition, seven local individuals were issued witness summonses to aid in the ongoing investigation.

All detainees have been transported to the Semuja Immigration Detention Depot for further documentation, investigation, and action under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The raid was led by Deputy Director of Immigration (Control), Puan Norhafiza binti Junaidi, who reaffirmed the department’s commitment to crack down on employers and individuals aiding undocumented workers. She highlighted that manufacturing sectors often become hotspots for illegal employment, and JIM is intensifying efforts to clean up such practices.

“There will be no compromise for employers who try to bypass the law,” she stressed.

The department also urges the public to report suspicious activities or the presence of illegal immigrants through official JIM communication channels. Public cooperation is essential to protect national security and uphold the country’s sovereignty.
