KUCHING – The Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKM) has officially launched its Innovation Month 2026, marking a renewed push to strengthen creativity and service delivery within the organisation. The event took place on 12 August at the JKM Sarawak Multipurpose Hall, drawing employees from across the department.
The ceremony was officiated by JKM Sarawak Director, YBrs. Tuan Haji Semawi bin Haji Mohamad, who underscored the importance of embedding innovation into daily operations. He highlighted that fostering a culture of creativity is essential to improving efficiency and ensuring that services meet the evolving needs of the community.
Deputy Director and Chief Transformation Officer, YBrs. Puan Hajah Norhayati binti Haji Abdul Rahman, delivered a welcome address, reinforcing the department’s commitment to organisational transformation. The programme also featured an Innovation Talk titled “Creativity Triggers, Drivers of Organisational Excellence”, which encouraged participants to embrace new ideas as catalysts for progress.
Attendees were invited to explore the JKM Sarawak 2026 Innovation Exhibition Space, where employees showcased projects and concepts designed to enhance public service. The exhibition provided a platform for staff to present practical solutions and demonstrate how innovation can directly benefit community welfare.
Running alongside the launch was the Creative and Innovative Group (KIK) Zone 4 Mini Convention, held over two days on 12 and 13 August. The competition brought together 17 teams, including four from JKM Sabah and 13 from JKM Sarawak. Participants presented initiatives aimed at improving organisational processes, with the convention serving as a collaborative forum for exchanging ideas and best practices.
The dual events highlighted JKM’s ongoing commitment to cultivating a progressive work culture. By encouraging employees to contribute innovative solutions, the department aims to strengthen its role in delivering effective social welfare services across Sarawak.
Organisers expressed appreciation to all staff and participants whose dedication ensured the success of the programme. The initiative reflects JKM’s broader vision of driving innovation from concept to impact, ultimately enhancing the well-being of society.
