JPJ Sarawak Director Leads Major Commercial Vehicle Operation in Kuching

KUCHING – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak has significantly scaled up its oversight of the logistics and transport sector through the launch of the Commercial Vehicle Breakout Operation.

On Tuesday, 31 March 2026, the department’s senior leadership, led by the Director of JPJ Sarawak, Tuan Norizan bin Jili, personally oversaw the implementation of these high-impact road safety measures.

The operation, which was conducted alongside Tuan Mohd Faizal David bin Jemat, the Deputy Director, and the Kuching JPJ Mobile Weighing Unit, was designed to target and penalise commercial vehicles that do not meet the stringent regulatory requirements of the state.

Officers were stationed at key strategic points to monitor for several specific infractions. The primary focus of the operation included the detection of overloaded vehicles, which pose a significant risk to the structural integrity of Sarawak’s road network.

Additionally, the department scrutinised vehicle technical standards and ensured that operators were adhering strictly to the conditions set out in their Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) permits.

The enforcement exercise was also attended by a high-ranking delegation including Puan Fifi Suhesty binti Asmuni, the Head of the Enforcement Division, and Tuan Ts. Ahmad Abdul Hadi bin Hamzah, the Head of the Automotive Engineering Division.

Their collective presence at the site underscores the department’s unified approach to modernising road enforcement through direct involvement from all technical departments.

During the site inspection, Tuan Saifullah bin Hj Ali, Head of the Operations Section, confirmed that immediate legal actions were initiated against offenders found in breach of current road transport laws.

These penalties serve as a deterrent to other transport operators who might consider circumventing safety protocols.

The JPJ Sarawak leadership has confirmed that the Commercial Vehicle Breakout Operation is not a one-off event. The department intends to intensify these raids across the state indefinitely.

They have issued a stern advisory to all logistics entrepreneurs and commercial vehicle owners to conduct regular maintenance and ensure their fleets are within legal weight limits.

By maintaining a consistent and visible presence on the roads, the department aims to reduce the likelihood of accidents involving heavy machinery and cargo vehicles.

The ultimate goal is to foster a culture of compliance that prioritises the safety of all road users over commercial expediency.
