KUCHING – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak convened an engagement session with trucking associations and operators on Monday, 30 March 2026, at the Kenyalang Meeting Room, Block A, JPJ Sarawak headquarters.
The meeting was chaired by YBrs. Tuan Norizan bin Jili, Director of JPJ Sarawak, and served as a platform to strengthen collaboration between regulators and the commercial transport sector.
The session focused on key issues affecting the industry, including regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and road safety.
Participants discussed how closer cooperation could help ensure that lorry operations in Sarawak continue to develop in a safe, sustainable, and integrity-driven manner.
Also in attendance were Mr. Ir. Mohd Yusop Mohamad, Director of the Automotive Engineering Division of JPJ Malaysia; Tuan Mohd Faizal David bin Jemat, Deputy Director of JPJ Sarawak; and Tuan Razami Mohamad Jamali, Deputy Director of LPKP Sarawak.
Representatives from trucking associations and operators across the state were present, reflecting the broad interest in improving industry standards.
Officials emphasised that JPJ Sarawak is committed to enhancing its engagement approach, ensuring that enforcement policies are clearly understood and effectively implemented by all stakeholders.
By fostering dialogue, the department aims to reduce misunderstandings and encourage compliance with national transport regulations.
The trucking industry plays a vital role in Sarawak’s economy, transporting goods across urban and rural areas.
However, challenges such as road safety, vehicle maintenance, and adherence to licensing requirements remain pressing concerns.
According to JPJ Malaysia, strengthening industry cooperation is essential to addressing these issues and safeguarding road users.
The session highlighted the importance of balancing economic growth with public safety. Industry representatives acknowledged that improving operational standards would not only benefit transport companies but also contribute to the wider prosperity of Sarawak.
“Through this close cooperation, it is hoped that the land transport industry, especially the lorry sector, will continue to grow in a safer, more integrated and sustainable manner for the well-being of road users and the prosperity of the state of Sarawak,” said Tuan Norizan bin Jili during the meeting.
The engagement reflects JPJ Sarawak’s broader strategy of building trust with industry players while reinforcing its role as a regulator.
By maintaining open communication channels, the department seeks to ensure that policies are practical, enforceable, and aligned with the realities of the transport sector.
This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to modernise Sarawak’s transport system, with a focus on safety, sustainability, and efficiency.
As the state continues to expand its infrastructure and economic activities, the trucking industry is expected to remain a cornerstone of logistics and supply chain operations.
