Sarawak Launches World-First KETEQ AI Power Converter in UK

Sarawak Launches World-First KETEQ AI Power Converter in UK

NEWPORT, Cardiff – April 29: Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg, has proudly launched a new world-class invention – the Edge AI Power Converter named KETEQ AI. This launch took place at the CSA Catapult facility in Newport, United Kingdom, during his official working trip.

The KETEQ AI is a first-of-its-kind device in the world. It was built through a strong partnership between SMD Semiconductor Sdn. Bhd. from Sarawak and CSA Catapult of the UK. This smart device uses artificial intelligence to detect and fix power system problems in less than one-tenth of a millisecond.

“This innovation is a big step for power electronics. It can make real-time decisions, making it useful for smart grids, electric vehicles, autonomous systems, and more,” said Premier Abang Johari during his launch speech.

He also shared that this journey began exactly one year ago when Sarawak signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CSA Catapult at the UK Parliament. Since then, Sarawak has been moving forward as a strong player in global tech innovation.

The Premier was joined by several top Sarawak officials, including Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah, and Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Dato Sri Roland Sagah.

Also present was SMD Semiconductor CEO, Shariman Jamil, who showed a demo of the prototype. Sarawak State Financial Secretary, Dato Sri Dr Wanlizozman Haji Wan Omar, also introduced the Sarawak Semiconductor Roadmap 2030, a long-term plan to boost Sarawak’s position in the global semiconductor industry.

To mark the event, SMD Semiconductor signed further agreements with CSA Catapult, Silicon Catalyst, and 5G3i Ltd., expanding Sarawak’s global partnerships.

This launch puts Sarawak on the map as a leader in smart power technology. – Sarawakku
