KUCHING – The Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS) has been encouraged to broaden its strategic collaborations to secure sustainable income streams and safeguard its long-term financial stability.
The advice was delivered by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg during a courtesy call by LAKMNS leadership at Kompleks Satria Pertiwi.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the board to present updates on its current initiatives and outline future plans.
Following the session, Chief Executive Officer Datu Abdul Hadi Datuk Abdul Kadir explained that the Premier had emphasised the importance of forging partnerships with relevant organisations.
“My colleagues and I were advised to collaborate with several related entities so that we can collectively harness our strengths to generate sustainable revenue for LAKMNS,” he said at a press conference.
The board is also exploring opportunities within Sarawak’s growing green economy. Datu Abdul Hadi noted that LAKMNS intends to align itself with state and national development strategies, particularly those focused on renewable energy and sustainability.
“A mosque is not merely a religious institution but plays a holistic role in community development. If there are opportunities to generate income through sustainable energy sectors, we will explore them,” he added.
Sarawak has been actively positioning itself as a leader in the green economy, with Premier Abang Johari highlighting renewable energy sources such as hydropower, solar, and biomass as key drivers of future growth.
The state’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 has laid the foundation for balancing economic expansion with environmental stewardship, aiming to build resilience and sustainability across all sectors.
In line with this vision, LAKMNS is considering ventures that could contribute to both community welfare and financial independence.
Property management and sustainable energy projects are among the areas being studied, reflecting the board’s commitment to diversifying its revenue base.
The courtesy call also saw the participation of Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mohamad Feisal Said and other senior officers of LAKMNS.
Their presence underscored the collective effort to strengthen the institution’s role not only as a religious body but also as a contributor to Sarawak’s socio-economic development.
By pursuing strategic partnerships and embracing sustainability, LAKMNS aims to reinforce its financial foundation while continuing to serve the community.
The board’s leadership has signalled readiness to adapt to changing economic landscapes, ensuring that its contributions remain relevant and impactful in the years ahead.
