Sarawak Governor Welcomes Norwegian Ambassador, Strengthens Green Energy Ties

KUCHING – The Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, received a courtesy visit from the newly appointed Norwegian Ambassador to Malaysia, Her Excellency Marianne Folsan, at the Astana Negeri Sarawak, Petra Jaya.

The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Knut Oyvind Granli, Deputy Head of Mission, Ms Elisabeth Rapp, Embassy intern, and Dato Fenny Nuli, Director of the Regional Affairs Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia, Sarawak.

The visit served as an official introduction and a platform to strengthen diplomatic relations and bilateral cooperation between Norway and Sarawak.

Discussions were held in a cordial atmosphere, focusing on joint agendas in renewable energy, environmental sustainability, trade, education, and the development of a green economy.

Ambassador Marianne Folsan expressed Norway’s readiness to share expertise and advanced technology in the field of green energy, noting that Norway is recognised globally as a leader in sustainable energy solutions.

Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi emphasised that Sarawak’s green energy initiatives align with the state’s aspiration to become a developed and resilient state by 2030, underpinned by sustainable economic growth and innovation in green technology.

He added that strategic cooperation with Norway would open new investment opportunities, create highly skilled jobs, and enhance Sarawak’s competitiveness in the global green economy.

“This partnership will not only strengthen clean energy development but also expand opportunities in education and innovative economic projects, bringing mutual benefits to the people of both countries,” he said.

The Governor expressed confidence that the close relationship between Sarawak and Norway will continue to flourish, particularly in areas such as clean energy, education, and technological innovation, reinforcing Sarawak’s role in advancing sustainable development.

The courtesy visit highlights Sarawak’s growing international engagement and its commitment to building strong partnerships that support the state’s long-term vision of sustainable prosperity.
