MIRI – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, officiated the Loyal Service Medal Presentation Ceremony for the Miri Division on 24 April 2026.
The event, held at the Mega Hotel, marked the third such ceremony organised this year and highlighted the state’s commitment to recognising the dedication of its civil servants.
A total of 180 recipients were honoured during the ceremony, representing officers and staff from 16 departments and agencies.
These included 11 state government agencies and five federal agencies, reflecting the broad scope of service across Sarawak’s administrative framework.
Among the state agencies represented were the Miri Division Resident and District Office, Sarawak Public Works Department, Sarawak Forest Department, Sarawak Land and Survey Department, Sarawak Irrigation and Drainage Department, and Sarawak Agriculture Department. Local authorities such as the Miri Municipal Council, Subis District Council, and Marudi District Council also took part.
Federal agencies included the National Registration Department, Malaysian Immigration Department, Royal Malaysian Customs Department, State Health Department, and Sarawak State Education Department.
Special recognition was given to several individuals who have served for more than 39 years. Among them were Mr Nilan anak Taygng, Mr Felix Druce, Mr Kalanah Bagol, Mr Lee Bu Chong, and Mr Richard anak Jabon.
Their long-standing contributions were acknowledged as exemplary, setting a benchmark for younger generations of civil servants.
The Loyal Service Medal is awarded as a formal gesture of appreciation by the Sarawak government. It symbolises the value placed on loyalty, commitment, and professionalism within the public sector.
The recognition is intended not only to honour individual achievements but also to reinforce the collective role of civil servants in delivering quality services to the people.
In his address, the Premier emphasised the importance of the public sector as the backbone of Sarawak’s administration.
He noted that the dedication of civil servants is vital to ensuring the smooth implementation of development policies and the continued progress of the state.
The ceremony, he said, reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of its workforce.
Observers highlighted that such events strengthen morale among civil servants and encourage a culture of excellence.
By recognising long service and outstanding dedication, the government aims to inspire continued commitment to public duty.
The ceremony concluded with a message of appreciation to all recipients, underscoring the role of civil servants in shaping Sarawak’s future.
