Sarawak Premier Explores Industrial Innovation at Suzhou Exhibition Centre

SUZHOU – Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg led a delegation to the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) Exhibition Center on Friday, where they explored strategies in industrial planning, technological innovation, and sustainable development.

The Premier was accompanied by Datuk Ibrahim Baki, Deputy Minister for Utilities (Sarawak Energy Berhad and PETROS), Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Hamid Bugo, Chairman of PETROS, and Dato Janin Girie, PETROS Group Chief Executive Officer, along with other senior officials.

Delegates were presented with a detailed overview of SIP’s transformation into a world-class industrial hub. The exhibition showcased how the integration of industry, infrastructure, housing, and green spaces has contributed to Suzhou’s success in building a sustainable ecosystem.

The briefing highlighted SIP’s strengths in developing industry clusters across key sectors such as semiconductors, biomedical sciences, automation, information technology, and clean energy. These clusters have positioned Suzhou as a leader in high-tech manufacturing and innovation.

The delegation also examined the role of digital technology and data-driven urban planning systems in enhancing government efficiency, utility management, and clean carbon initiatives. These practices align closely with Sarawak’s ambition to establish the Kuching Clean Carbon Hub (KLCH), a project aimed at boosting the state’s economy through sustainable industrial growth.

Premier Abang Johari noted that the visit was not merely a tour but a strategic learning opportunity. He emphasised that adopting best practices from SIP could help Sarawak develop advanced industries while maintaining environmental sustainability.

Later, the Premier and his team held discussions with Wu Qingwen, Mayor of Suzhou City Government. The meeting focused on knowledge exchange and potential collaboration in areas of industrial development and clean energy.

Also present were Deng Yajun, Deputy General Manager of China Jiangsu International Group, and Xu Ben, General Secretary of Suzhou Municipal Government. Their participation underscored the importance of international cooperation in fostering innovation and sustainable growth.
