BERLIN – Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg has embarked on a working visit to Germany and France from September 7 to 9, as part of Sarawak’s efforts to strengthen international cooperation in green energy development.
The Premier, who arrived in Berlin on Sunday evening, was accompanied by Sarawak Utilities and Telecommunications Minister Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Deputy Utilities Minister (Sarawak Energy and Petros) Dato Ibrahim Baki, Deputy Secretary of the Sarawak Ministry of Power and Environment Datu Abang Ahmad Abang Morni, and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) Group Chief Executive Officer Dato Sharbini Suhaili.
Yesterday, the delegation visited Siemens Energy Headquarters at Huttenstraße, Berlin. The programme began with a meeting with Siemens Energy Global Functions Executive Vice President Juha Pankakoshi. The Premier and his team were also taken on a tour of the company’s key facilities, including the Electrolyzer Plant, Gas Turbine Plant, and Innovation Centre.
On September 9, the Premier will attend the International Forum on Pumped Storage Hydropower at UNESCO House, Paris. The event, titled “Pump it up! Powering a Decarbonised World”, will see him delivering welcoming remarks where he will outline Sarawak’s ambition to become a global green energy hub and hydrogen producer.
During his stay in Paris, the Premier is also scheduled to meet with French Industry and Power Minister Marc Ferracci and International Hydropower Association (IHA) President Malcolm Turnbull. In addition, he will visit the headquarters of Électricité de France (EDF) on Avenue de Wagram.
This working visit underscores Sarawak’s long-term commitment under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and the Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint 2030, which aim to position the state as a regional leader in renewable energy.
The Premier stressed that Sarawak’s international partnerships will not only open new opportunities in clean energy but also strengthen Sarawak’s role in contributing to the global fight against climate change. — UKAS
