The opening day featured intense competition in several categories, setting a competitive tone for the proceedings. The first event saw crews battle in the Men’s 30-Oar Bidar Boat (Open) race, contending for the coveted Borneo International Cup.

This was swiftly followed by the Men’s 15-Oar Bidar Boat (Open) category, which also featured a mix of local teams and international participants. The sight of the long, slender bidar boats being powered through the water by synchronised crews provided a dramatic spectacle for the crowds lining the riverbank.

A significant highlight of the tournament is the forthcoming race for the Men’s 30-Oar Bidar Boat (Local) category. The winning team will be awarded the Tuan Yang Terutama Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak (Raja Sungai) Cup, one of the most historically prestigious trophies in the Regatta’s long history.

Further adding to the day’s excitements were other local team competitions. Spectators witnessed the 15-Oar Men’s (Local) Bidar Boat Race, where teams vied for the Perpaduan Cup, and the 25-Oar Men’s (Local) race, which was held for the Petros Cup. All these races took place on the designated Sarangan A course.

Beyond the sheer athletic competition, the Sarawak Regatta serves a deeper purpose as a symbol of harmony and unity. It brings together Sarawak’s diverse multi-racial communities in a shared celebration of state identity and heritage.
