Datuk Dr. Annuar Rapaee, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Skills Development, confirmed this position during the Steps Convention at DeTAR Putra, UNIMAS. He acknowledged an increase in infections but emphasised that the cases remain under control through proactive measures.

“Presently, no educational institutions have been shut due to influenza outbreaks,” he stated. “We would only consider closure if a serious outbreak occurred within a school, but the current situation doesn’t warrant such action.”

He clarified that all schools have received comprehensive guidelines from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) for preventing and managing influenza transmission within their premises. The focus remains on vigilant monitoring and early intervention to contain potential spread.

Regarding academic activities, Datuk Dr. Annuar confirmed that the Bilingual Program Evaluation (DLP) proceeded without disruption on October 15 and 16. He noted that nearly all schools participated, with only one institution excluded due to having no Primary 6 students.

Approximately 26,000 students from over 1,000 primary schools throughout the state undertook the assessment. The evaluation serves a crucial role in reviewing the programme’s progress over the past six years and identifying areas for improvement in specific subjects and schools.

Results are anticipated within one month of the examination date. These outcomes will also inform the End of Academic Session Test (UASA) for three core subjects. Top-performing students may receive opportunities to study at the Yayasan Sarawak International School.
