KUCHING – Sarawak Skills has announced a 93 percent employability rate for its graduates within six months of completing their studies, underscoring the institution’s role in producing a workforce aligned with industry needs.
The achievement was highlighted during the 27th Sarawak Skills Convocation Ceremony at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), where Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Abdul Aziz Husain, Chairman of Sarawak Skills, said the results reflect the institution’s consistent efforts to prepare graduates for the job market.
Of the total, 75 percent of graduates secured employment in fields directly related to their studies, a figure described as encouraging for the institution’s long-term development. The announcement was delivered on his behalf by Norazibah M. Rabu, Vice Chairman of the Sarawak Skills Management Council.
The convocation was officiated by Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, who represented Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.
Tan Sri Abdul Aziz noted that the success was made possible through strong collaboration with the Sarawak Government, Federal Government, and industry partners, who have consistently supported the institution’s mission to produce highly skilled graduates.
Since its establishment, Sarawak Skills has produced over 80,000 alumni, with its network now comprising 85 members from government agencies and industries, nine branches across Sarawak, and training in 13 skill areas for school leavers.
He emphasised that Sarawak Skills is determined to strengthen its position as a “TVET Trendsetter” in Sarawak and Malaysia, in line with the state’s development agenda and the growing demand for skilled manpower.
The convocation also celebrated the achievements of hundreds of graduates, with the event attended by senior state leaders including Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development.
Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (Talent Development); and Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee, Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (Higher Education & Innovation) also attended.
The announcement comes as Sarawak continues to prioritise Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a key driver of its Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which aims to build a sustainable and knowledge-based economy.
Recent state-level data also shows that TVET graduates across Sarawak have consistently recorded employability rates above 90 percent, reflecting the strong demand for skilled workers in sectors such as energy, engineering, digital technology, and modern agriculture.
With its latest milestone, Sarawak Skills has reinforced its reputation as a leading institution in workforce development, producing graduates who are not only academically capable but also industry-ready.
