SARIKEI — The 2025 Sarawak State-Level School Sports Council (MSS) Special Education Athletics Championship came to a close on Thursday, following four days of spirited competition at the Sarikei Sports Complex.
The closing ceremony was officiated by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability and Sarikei Member of Parliament, Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii. He extended his heartfelt appreciation to all parties involved for their efforts in making the event, which began on June 30, a resounding success.
Highlighting the tournament’s significance, Dato’ Sri Huang noted that the championship reflects the collective commitment to advancing special education across Sarawak. “This platform enables students with special needs to demonstrate their athletic talent and resilience, promoting the message that equal opportunities and inclusive education are the cornerstones of a caring and progressive society,” he said.
Dato’ Sri Huang, who is also the State Assemblyman for Repok, commended the participating Special Needs Students (MBK) for their exemplary sportsmanship, discipline, and determination, describing them as a source of inspiration for the broader community.
“You have all proven that when given the space and opportunity, talent knows no boundaries,” he remarked, urging for further empowerment of special education through early intervention, holistic growth, and a comprehensive support network to ensure no student is left behind.
He also acknowledged Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg for the state’s unwavering dedication to strengthening the education ecosystem. He praised initiatives such as the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) for Parent-Teacher Associations and School Management Boards, along with continuous infrastructure enhancements throughout Sarawak.
In support of the cause, Dato’ Sri Huang announced a contribution of RM30,000 to the Sarikei Education Development Fund, reinforcing his commitment to boosting special education in the region.
The championship marked not only a celebration of athletic excellence, but also a bold step forward in Sarawak’s journey toward inclusive and equitable education for all.
