Sarawak Chinese New Year 2026 Set to Unite Communities at BCCK

KUCHING: The Sarawak Chinese New Year Celebration 2026 is set to take place at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on February 17, from 10am to 2pm, promising a day of cultural performances, festive cheer, and community bonding.

Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian said the annual celebration will be honoured by the presence of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar. Speaking at a press conference at Wisma Bapa Malaysia on Wednesday, he highlighted the significance of the event as more than just a festive gathering.

“This annual celebration serves as an important platform to foster unity, mutual respect, and understanding among the multi-racial communities in Sarawak. It reflects the spirit of inclusiveness and harmony that has long been the foundation of the state’s strength and stability,” he said.

Dr Sim, who also serves as the Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, invited the public to join the event and enliven the celebration. He emphasised that the open nature of the festival embodies the values of sharing, togetherness, and mutual appreciation, which are central to Sarawak’s unique social harmony.

The press conference was attended by several senior state officials, including Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, and Sarawak Deputy Secretary to the State (Operations) Datu Hii Chang Kee.

Organisers expect the event to attract a wide cross-section of Sarawakians, creating a lively atmosphere where residents of all backgrounds can enjoy cultural performances, traditional cuisine, and festive activities. The celebration continues to serve as a symbol of Sarawak’s enduring spirit of unity, showing that communal bonds and mutual respect remain at the heart of the state’s identity.

As Sarawakians come together this February, the Chinese New Year celebration promises not only joy and entertainment but also a reaffirmation of the state’s values of harmony and inclusivity.
