BINTULU – The Sarawak government has reinforced its commitment to strict monitoring of development projects to ensure they are completed on schedule and to prevent delays or “sick” status.
Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, said a firm and systematic approach is essential to guarantee effective implementation and quality outcomes.
“Our priority now is to ensure that all projects currently being implemented can be completed on time and, if possible, earlier. We need to be firm and disciplined so that sick projects do not occur,” he stated.
He made the remarks during the pre-launch of the Batang Kemena (Sebauh) bridge project on Saturday. The project, supervised by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), is expected to improve road connectivity and enhance rural access in Sebauh and surrounding areas.
Uggah noted that only two projects have been identified with issues so far, but expressed confidence that these challenges can be resolved through technical coordination and immediate solutions.
He emphasised that improving project delivery also depends on the use of advanced research equipment and close cooperation among implementing agencies to address technical hurdles.
The Deputy Premier highlighted that disciplined monitoring is crucial for Sarawak’s broader development agenda, ensuring that infrastructure projects not only meet deadlines but also deliver long-term benefits to communities.
The Batang Kemena bridge project is one of several initiatives aimed at strengthening rural infrastructure, reducing travel times, and supporting economic growth in the division.
By prioritising accountability and efficiency, the state government aims to set a benchmark for project management, ensuring that resources are optimised and public trust is maintained.
