Sarawak TYT Urges Unity and Respect for Workers on Labour Day

Sarawak TYT Urges Unity and Respect for Workers on Labour Day

KUCHING, 1 May 2025 – The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, has extended warm Selamat Hari Pekerja wishes to all hardworking individuals across Sarawak and Malaysia.

This year’s Labour Day carries the theme “Pekerja Kesuma Bangsa”, which highlights the important role of workers in building a united, strong and progressive Malaysia. The theme also supports the new vision by the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) that focuses on the values of dignity, well-being, and harmony in the workplace.

Tun Pehin Sri expressed his deep appreciation for workers, saying:

“Workers are the heart and soul of the country’s development. Without their sacrifices, no development plans can succeed. I urge all Sarawakians to always respect, protect and empower our working community.”

He called on all Malaysians to practise a work culture based on integrity, cooperation, and mutual respect so that Sarawak can realise its vision of becoming a developed state by 2030.

From the oil rigs in Bintulu to farms in rural areas, and from digital start-ups in Kuching to tourism operators across the state, Sarawak’s workers have made real contributions to the economy and daily life. Their hard work brings change, growth and unity to the state.

Tun Pehin Sri also praised employers and trade unions for their role in ensuring worker welfare. He said that a fair and respectful relationship between employers and employees is key to a safe, stable and productive work environment.

Labour Day is not just a holiday, but a reminder of the need to create fair job opportunities, improve skills training, and ensure every worker is protected and respected. A skilled, ethical and empowered workforce is the foundation of a successful and united Sarawak. — TYT Sarawak
