BINTULU – More than 140 young participants gathered at the TEGAS Digital Innovation Hub Bintulu for a workshop designed to strengthen digital literacy and creative skills among Sarawak’s emerging generation.
The programme, titled YLE: INFLUENCE – Digital Content Mastery, attracted both in-person and online attendees. Around 40 students from Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) and Kolej Vokasional Bintulu joined physically, while another 100 took part virtually.
The initiative targeted youths aged between 17 and 26, offering them practical exposure to digital tools and strategies. A central theme was the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance storytelling and community-driven content. Participants were encouraged to explore how technology can amplify voices and create meaningful social impact.
Interactive sessions tested problem-solving skills in real time, with students tasked to design narratives that could influence audiences positively. Organisers emphasised that the workshop was not only about technical proficiency but also about cultivating creativity and resilience in a fast-changing digital environment.
The event formed part of the wider #InnovateSarawak movement, which aims to prepare local talent for the demands of the digital economy. According to TEGAS, the Digital Innovation Hub serves as a platform to nurture entrepreneurship and innovation, aligning with Sarawak’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030.
Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus has also highlighted the importance of equipping students with digital competencies to remain competitive globally. Officials stressed that digital skills are no longer optional but essential for future careers.
The workshop reflects a growing momentum in Sarawak to integrate technology into education and youth development. Similar initiatives, such as the Borneo Makers Festival and the International Putra Bakti @ Youth Digital 2025, have also been held in Bintulu, underscoring the region’s role as a hub for innovation and creativity.
By bridging traditional storytelling with modern technology, the programme sought to inspire participants to become changemakers in their communities. The organisers believe that empowering young people with digital mastery will not only benefit their personal growth but also contribute to Sarawak’s broader socio-economic progress.
The event concluded with optimism that such workshops will continue to expand, offering more opportunities for Sarawak’s youth to thrive in the digital era.
